David has a combined 18 years of experience spanning Pharma, child survival and development, epidemic preparedness and response, and academia. David started his career working in regulatory affairs. He then spent several years teaching at Makerere University before moving to the African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET) as its 1st Chief Executive.

He spent seven years at AFENET helping build epidemic preparedness and response capacities across 20 African countries working with the US CDC, USAID, WHO, and others. He joined the Bill and Melinda Gates in 2013 as a Program Officer/Global Health Fellow, and worked on pneumonia diagnostics and treatment, surveillance, and R&D for Ebola vaccines. In 2016, David joined the Regulatory Affairs team at the Gates Foundation as Senior Program Officer responsible for the Africa regulatory systems strengthening work of the foundation. David holds BPharm and MPH degrees from Makerere University in Uganda, and a PhD in International Health from the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden.
